NEW
YORK, June 30th, 2008 - Broadcast Music,
Inc. (BMI), the U.S. performing right
organization, announces the return of its
highly successful Latin music showcase,
BMI
Presents.
The 2008 series returns with
"Verano
Alternativo"
on Tuesday, July 8th, feature performances
by talented Alternative music acts,
Marel, Origen, LapDance Taxi Amarillo and
organicArma
at
S.O.B's (204 Varick Street, NYC). Doors open
at 6:00 p.m.
The hipsters set to attend the "Verano
Alternativo"(Alternative Summer) will
experience a dangerously eclectic mix of
hard-hitting, cutting edge sounds from
bi-lingual Latin
rock
artists.
Acts like experimental, bi-lingual pop rock
band,
organicArma
the
progressive electronic music group with a
distinct concept, have set out to defy
traditional expectations of Latin music.
LapDance,
the five man new wave, indie electronic and
retro Brit-pop-sounding band, emerging from
Puerto Rico's underground rock scene, unlike
a
real
LapDance - they don't lead you on, however
will leave you wanting more; the New York
City-based band,
Taxi
Amarillo
(Yellow Taxi) delivers what they like to
call "Power Pop Rock"; South American triple
threat,
Origen
will sway the crowd with their punchy music
and Dominican-born
Marel's
eclectic style is in a league of his own.
These talented singer/songwriters embody
authentic
Latin
Alternative Rock.
Each year, since it's inception in 2000,
LAMC attracts over 30,000 music lovers and
industry leaders by exposing the best of
this increasingly popular musical genre.
"Latin music is one of the greatest success
stories in the music business for the past
six years.," said Porfirio Piņa, BMI's
Senior Director, Writer / Publisher
Relations - Latin.
BMI songwriter, Grammy award winning rocker,
Juanes, was the first Latino to ever sell
six million singles on-line. Shakira sold
forty millions records worldwide. Latin
Alternative music sales are clearly on the
rise. Last summer, rocker Alejandra Alberti
was a featured 'BMI Presents' showcase
artist, and a few months later, she was
accepting a Latin Grammy nomination for
"Best New Artist." The 'BMI Presents' Latin
music showcase series has given birth to
several success stories and will continue to
highlight talented singer/ songwriters who
are poised to shape the industry for
generations.

just think
Salsa,
think
Red
Hot Chili Peppers
too!
